Data and privacy

TablePick works without accounts. This is exactly what we store.

An anonymous browser identifier

The first time you visit, we assign a random identifier in a technical cookie (tp_id). It lets you change or remove your vote without creating a new one, and prevents accidental duplicate plays.

On the server we don't store that identifier but a keyed fingerprint of it, from which the cookie can't be recovered. We never ask for your name, email or any other personal data.

Votes and plays are stored on the server, so deleting cookies doesn't remove them. It only means that browser can no longer change its previous vote, and a new vote would count separately.

Votes and plays

We store each vote (game, stars and date) and each play (game, date and, if you give it, the number of players). We don't store player names. Averages and rankings are always calculated from those records.

Since there are no verified accounts, the system can't fully prevent duplicate votes: someone could use several browsers or delete their cookies. We limit how often votes and plays can be sent to reduce abuse, and we always show how many votes and plays are behind each figure.

IP addresses

We only use your IP address in memory, for a few minutes, to limit request rates. We don't store it in the database.

Language

If you choose a language, we remember it in a cookie (tp_lang). Without it, we use your browser's language.

Affiliate links

The links to Amazon on game pages are affiliate links: if you buy after following one, Amazon pays TablePick a commission at no extra cost to you. Once you leave TablePick, Amazon's own privacy notice and cookies apply.

Game data

Game listings come from an external catalog (credited in the footer) and are shown unmodified, apart from automatic translation. Its ratings are shown separately from TablePick's.
